Migration guide

Migrate from Tumblr to RankFlo

Move your Tumblr posts to a real platform with SEO and a custom domain.

Why move from Tumblr

  • Real SEO — Tumblr's structure isn't built for ranking
  • Custom domain without Tumblr's branding
  • AI content generation and analytics built in
  • Real archive structure with tags, categories, and search
  • Self-hostable if you want full ownership

Things to plan for

Edge cases that come up on most Tumblr → RankFlo migrations.

Tumblr's post types (text, photo, quote, link, audio, video)

Tumblr has multiple post types. We map text and photo posts to standard blog posts; quote/link/audio/video posts become specialized blocks.

Step-by-step migration

3 steps. Export format: ZIP archive (HTML + media)

  1. 1

    Export Tumblr blog

Tumblr account settings → Export. Downloads a .zip with HTML files and media.

  2. 2

    Run the Tumblr importer

Settings → Import → Tumblr (zip). Upload the .zip; we parse posts and re-host media.

  3. 3

Set up redirects from yourname.tumblr.com to your new domain

Use a custom Tumblr theme that injects a 301 to your new URL, or move on entirely.

After the migration

SEO and operational checklist — don't skip these.

  • Set up 301 redirects from old URLs to new RankFlo URLs
  • Submit your new sitemap to Google Search Console
  • Verify all internal links resolved correctly
  • Re-add SEO meta titles and descriptions where missing
  • Configure your custom domain and HTTPS
  • Run a crawler (Screaming Frog) against the new site to catch broken links
